On 'What’s in a Statue? The Downfall of Icons, and Lately of Mohandas Gandhi'

I am always impressed by the poem Oozymandias of Egypt by Shelley and so no problem whether certain statues are there or not but there are millions of people who respect, even adore, leaders such as Gandhi and they will be very much hurt. With his mindset Vinay Lal would fit into the Abraham or Mohammed's mindset of breaking all the idols - of all Hindu Gods and goddesses - too. He talks of no aesthetic content in many Gandi statues - would they advocate the same for Ambedkar statues which have sprouted everywhere in India? I would very much like to know.
